Hyponidd Tablets – Relief from PCOS

Today, with our jobs and stressful lives, our bodies have become prone to many types of illnesses. Ayurveda has been saving people for ages by offering cures that are sometimes considered impossible by allopathic doctors. Ayurveda also offers a simple solution called Hyponidd tablets to the ailment known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders among females. PCOS is a complex, heterogeneous disorder of uncertain etiology, but there is strong evidence that it can, to a large degree, be classified as a genetic disease.

(PCOS) is a condition characterized by an imbalance of hormones in women which can affect menstrual periods and ovulation.

It is a polyherbal formulation. It is indicated in PCOS for improving insulin sensitivity, thereby promoting ovulation. It also reduces the levels of testosterone. These tablets help in managing hirsutism, acne, alopecia, and obesity. Metformin is used widely to manage PCOS, and Hyponidd is equally effective. It also helps in reducing insulin resistance, and hyperandrogenemia and in increasing ovulation rate in anovulatory PCOS women with the added advantage of almost no side effects of gastric disorders as found in Metformin.

What are the symptoms of PCOS?

  1. Menstrual disorders: PCOS mostly produces oligomenorrhea (few menstrual periods) or amenorrhea (no menstrual periods), but other types of menstrual disorders may also occur.
  2. Infertility: This generally results directly from chronic anovulation (lack of ovulation).
  3. High levels of masculinizing hormones: Women experience signs like acne and hirsutism (male pattern of hair growth). However, it may produce hypermenorrhea (very frequent menstrual periods), androgenic alopecia (increase hair thinning or diffuse hair loss), or other symptoms. Approximately three-quarters of patients with PCOS (by the diagnostic criteria of NIH/NICHD 1990) have evidence of hyperandrogenemia.
  4. Metabolic syndrome: This appears as a tendency towards central obesity and other symptoms associated with insulin resistance. Serum insulin, insulin resistance, and homocysteine levels are higher in women with PCOS.

What is the main cause of PCOS?

  • Eating excessively sweet foods which elevate Kapha Dosha in the body
  • Eating inappropriate foods that cannot be digested by the system and Ayurveda refers to this condition as Pranjaparadha ( Lack of common sense)
  • Chronic impairment of the digestive system referred to as Mandagni- sub-level digestion.

A complication of PCOS:

85% of female infertility is due to PCOD.

Pregnancy can be challenging for women with PCOD, as the treatment of PCOD becomes a major concern.

The Ayurvedic perspective of PCOS

Ayurveda does not name a particular disease that can be considered as equivalent to PCOS. But there are some ailments where the symptoms match with those of PCOS. These symptoms are due to Pitta Vata vitiation which gradually affects the uterus and its normal functioning.

Charak Acharya describes a condition called Rakta yoni which is characterized by heavy blood flow through the vagina due to Rakta Pitta vitiation which in turn is the result of improper food of the woman. Acharya says that in this condition the bleeding does not stop even while the woman is pregnant.

Charak Acharya explains another condition called Arajaska, which arises due to Pitta kapha and is characterized by the absence of menstruation.

Its treatments are focused only on covering up the symptoms not alleviating the underlying issues. From the Ayurveda perspective, PCOS features of Artavakshaya due to RasavahaStrotoDushti make malformed Rakta and further Dhatu. As Artava is Updhatu of RaktaDhatu and Pita is Samandharmi(same properties) of RaktaDhatu. PitalDravya is prescribed as the main line of treatment after complete Shodhana. Many studies with Ayurveda drugs have shown excellent results in curing PCOS without any side effects.
