SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CATARACT

  • Clouded and blurred vision

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF CATARACT

  • Due to the etiological factors protein present in the lens clumps together leads to opacity in the lens, which causes a reduction in the refractive power of the lens. Gradually the vision diminishes and symptoms of cataract manifested.

 LAKSHANA – AYURVEDIC SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CATARACT

  • Complete obstruction of vision; the patient can only perceive bright light /object.
  • The pupillary circle appears to be thick, smooth, and white like a white drop of water (fluid) moving on the lotus leaf.
  • The pupil constricts in sun and dilates in dark
  • The pupillary circle changes its shape on ocular massage.

 The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
