KSHAR PARPATI

Kshar parpati is an Ayurvedic medicine used in the management of urinary disorders. This tablet/powder is prepared by minerals. This medicine should only take as per the direction by a physician.

BENEFITS OF KSHAR PARPATI

  • This medicine popularly used in the management of different types of urinary disorders.
  • This medicine is also known as shweta parpati due to its white colour.
  • Has a major role in preventive and curative aspects of urolithiasis along with its associated complaints.
  • Lithotriptic action of kshar parpati is based on the combined action of the ingredients.
  • Potassium alkali is diuretic. Diuretics can reduce the amount of calcium released into the urine. Therefore it reduces the risk of calcium precipitation.
  • Increased urine acidity precipitates uric acid crystals. Ammonium has an important role in neutralizing urine acidity. Ammonium increases solubility of minerals in urine thus prevents solid aggregation.
  • Through lekhana action, it reduces kapha, the major dosha predominance in asmari (urinary calculi) formation.
  • The alkalinity of kshara neutralizes increased urine acidity.
  • The overall action of kshar parpati is based on Moothrala (diuretic) and Swedala (sweat production) properties

METHOD OF PREPARATION

 

 

  • Parpatis are medicines which posses flake-like appearance.
  • The contents are taken in a vessel and are melted under low flame; once it melts throw the melted mixture on another clean vessel.
  • On cooling, the white flakes of kshar parpati are collected, powdered and stored.
  • Purification of soorya kshara – by using the decoction of ela (Elettaria cardamomum)
  • Purification of sphatika – remove the water content by heating
  • Purification of navasadara – mixed with water and filtered to remove impurities

DOSHA- DUSHYA PREDOMINANCE AND ROGA MARGA

  • Dosha – This medicine is recommended for the treatment of vata,pitta and kapha dosha imbalance
  • Dushya- useful in diseases affecting rasadhatu, raktha dhatu and mutra mala – haematuria, urinary retention.
  • Roga marga – Useful in diseases affecting madhyama roga marga – urinary disorders

 

 

DOSAGE AND USAGE

 

Take 500 – 625 mg (5 gunja) after food once or twice daily along with tender coconut water or water or as directed by an Ayurvedic doctor.

 

EXERCISES AND YOGA

 

Yoga and Pranayama are a set of breathing and stretching exercises respectively, widely practised in the treatment of many diseases.

 

Nadi Shuddi Pranayam    – for getting calmness to the mind provide overall health

 

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.

 

              RECOMMENDED DIET AND BEHAVIOUR

  • Avoid food items which produce dosha imbalance like cold, more acrid, sour and dry food, hard to digest. Because dosha imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Consume easily digestible food items.
  • Avoid excessive intake of tomato, shellfish, milk.
  • Drink more water.

  • This medicine should only take as per the direction of the physician.
  • Taken by children, lactating women and during pregnancy only after consulting an ayurveda doctor
  • Improper administration and overdosage lead to side effects.

  • How long the medicine can be used?

 

The duration of medicinal administration is based on your stage of disease in pregnancy. Before taking medicine consult an Ayurvedic physician.

This medicine is not habit-forming. After using for a prescribed period gradually decrease the dose and eventually stop it.
