RASAMANIKYA

Rasamanikya is an Ayurvedic medicine used in the treatment of fever and respiratory diseases. This is available in tablet or powder form. This medicine contains only mineral ingredients. This medicine should only take as per the direction of the physician.

METHOD OF PREPARATION OF RASAMANIKYA

2gms of purified haritala powder placed in between two Abhraka pathra (mica sheets, wide enough to hold the drug) and the edges on all sides are clamped. Then it held firmly with holders and the sandwiched drug inside is exposed to moderate heat. Heated uniformly till it turns to ruby red colour.

  • Detoxification of Haritala – The roughly powdered haritala boiling in the juice of kushmanda (ash gourd- Benincasa hispida) for 3hrs.

DOSHA- DUSHYA PREDOMINANCE AND ROGA MARGA OF RASAMANIKYA

  •  Dosha – This medicine is recommended for the treatment of vata – kapha predominant diseases.
  • Dushya- useful in diseases affecting rasa, rakta dhatu – fever, skin diseases
  • Roga marga – Useful in diseases affecting bahya and abhyanthara roga marga like skin diseases, respiratory disorders like bronchitis and asthma.

 DOSAGE AND USAGE OF RASAMANIKYA

 62.5 mg (half gunja) after food once or twice daily along with ghee or honey or as directed by an Ayurvedic doctor.

EXERCISES AND YOGA OF RASAMANIKYA

 Yoga and Pranayama are a set of breathing and stretching exercises respectively, widely practiced in the treatment of different diseases.

Nadi Shuddi Pranayam    – Effective in respiratory diseases

 The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.

RECOMMENDED DIET AND BEHAVIOUR FOR RASAMANIKYA

  • Avoid food items which produce vata dosha imbalance like cold and dry food, hard to digest. Because vata imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Consume easily digestible food items , luke warm water
  • Avoid exposure to cold environment.

SIDE EFFECTS AND CONTRA INDICATIONS OF RASAMANIKYA

  •  This medicine should only take as per the direction by the physician.
  • It is better to avoid by children, lactating women and during pregnancy
  • Improper administration and over dosage leads to side effects since it contains heavy metal Arsenic.
  • If used in higher dose the medicine may irritate the gastric and intestinal mucosa.

  • How long Rasamanikya can be used?
