DESCRIPTION
Sindoor has both social and religious significance in India. Married women in India wear Sindoor at the tip of their parted hair every day to honor their husband and as a prayer for his long life. Both married and unmarried women wear it in the center of their forehead as a beauty enhancer. It is one of the 16 traditional items referred to as Solah Shringar used in Indian bridal makeup. Men and women also apply it as a tilak on their forehead while visiting a temple or attending a religious ceremony. Sindoor is also a ritual offering to Hindu deities, mostly in temples dedicated to Shakti, Lakshmi, and Vishnu.
