Bruhath nayopayam kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for controlling and regulating vaata especially in deranged Vyaana – Udaana Vaata conditions.

This yogam is specially made by traditional Kerala vaidyas.

It is a modification of Nayopayam kashayam.

The shloka of Nayopayam goes like Naya, Upaaya and Ayana as the quantity of Bala, Jeeraka and Naagara respectively.

According to the ancient Indian tradition,

Naya’s are 6 in number namely Sandhi, Vigraham, Yaanam, Aasanam, Dwaitheebhaavam, and Aasrayam.

Upaaya’s are 4 in number namely Saamam Daanam Bhedam and Dandam.

Ayana’s are 2 in number namely Uttarayana and Dakshinayana.

By comparing them to the corresponding drug, we should understand that the ratio of Bala, Jeeraka and Naagara should be 6:4:2.

Coming to Bruhath Nayopayam, one more drug Sthira is added and the ratio of drugs is completely different.

Details of the manufacturing

As already discussed, Bruhath nayopayam kashayam has 4 ingredients with a distinct ratio.

All these ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.

Take Sthira, Bala, Jeeraka and Naagara in 4:4:3:1 ratio in dried & crushed form in an earthern pot. For your special attention, Naagara should be crushed and tied up separately in a white clean cotton cloth as a Potali. This is to prevent the excess dissolution of the contents and to maintain the exact consistency of the kashayam. Now add 16 times clean water into it. Make it boil and then cook in the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into one by eighth of the initial quantity. Make sure to mix it in between with a ladle without breaking the potli. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the water. Once the quantity is reduced to one by eighth of the initial amount of water, remove the vessel from the fire. Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth.
