COLLAPSED LUNG

A collapsed lung is a condition in which the air sacs in the lungs collapse and do not expand properly. It is one of the complications of anesthesia. It is also called ‘atelectasis’.

Auscultation – when listening to the chest with a stethoscope, the doctor may hear abnormal breathing sounds.

DIET AND BEHAVIOUR FOR COLLAPSED LUNG

  • Avoid food items that produce kapha, vataa dosha imbalance like cold and dry food, hard to digest. Because kapha, vata imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Consume easily digestible food items
  • Avoid a heavy diet at bedtime.
  • Avoid drinking water immediately after food.
  • Avoid heavy exercises.

YOGA FOR COLLAPSED LUNG

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayam – cleans the respiratory passage

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, and the body relaxed. The patient has to close one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb
